“Why Coke?”
The challenge for me intellectually and artistically was “Do I have the ability to take one of the world’s best known icons, the Coca-Cola bottle, and transform it into a unique art form?”
The reality of the project became daunting. Reviewing the work
of many well-known artists who have portrayed Coke bottles proved futile. I decided to discard all that had read about and seen and searched for a new approach. I realized that what I was looking for were “The Other Faces of Coke.”
The other “Faces,” which I hope are evident in my collection, reveal the power of the Coke bottle silhouette, as Coke’s singular identity, while, at the same time, providing aesthetic and cultural appeal to the viewers as individual art pieces and as a cohesive collection.
Beyond the scope of the constructions themselves, my intent is that the series promote Coca-Cola’s enduring interest and support of artists and art institutions in Atlanta and elsewhere.
